Plane Crash Near Little Black River Results in Rescues
SAVANNAH, Ga. — A small airplane accident near the Little Black River in South Carolina on Saturday resulted in the rescue of two individuals.
The United States Coast Guard was able to airlift the two occupants after their plane crashed in a marshy area.
“After arriving on the scene, we quickly located and deployed our rescue swimmer to the downed aircraft to assess the pilot’s condition,” stated Lt. Cmdr. Jon Sapundjieff, Coast Guard Air Station Savannah aircraft commander. “I appreciate the assistance from the tower controller and the airport crash crew at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for making this case go smoothly.”
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Coast Guard reports, a boat from the Chatham County Fire Department initially tried to reach the individuals but was hindered by shallow water conditions.
Fortunately, neither the pilot nor the passenger sustained any injuries during the incident.
